		<description>Hi Joe,

Thanks for the comment. I&#039;m not familiar with Mr. Cox&#039;s work, but I&#039;ll look him up.

		<description>Hi,
I enjoyed looking at your paintings.
I had a watercolor instructor while I was going to the New England School of Art during the mid 50&#039;s named JWS COX.
The first day of class he walked around the class and took their tubes of black and white away and threw them into the waste basket. He said why use white paint if the paper is white.
Are you familiar with his work?
I was working on the first watercolor I had ever done while we were in The Fens. It was of one of the stone bridges that are there. He picked up my brush and made a few strokes and I had a masterpiece. He signed it and went on to another student. Sad to say it was with my belongings I had stored at a friends house. There was a flood and all of my furniture etc. were destroyed. I never realized that the most valuable thing was that painting until a couple of years ago. I saw an article in a magazine about him a few years ago. His paintings are worth thousands.

<description>[...] Mid Winter Afternoon along the West River, Weston, VT.   Done on a bright, cloudless winter afternoon, the bright sunlight created bright blue shadows on the snow, cast from these houses and structures along the river.   The West River is a slow moving river at this point and is actually frozen over Depicting ice, specifically in a frozen lake or river is a difficult challenge. While the surface is reflective, the reflections are soft and muted.  At the same time the surface is generally much lighter than that of either standing or moving water.  Compare the ice covered river and reflections in the middle left of this sketch to the moving water depicted in my sketch of the Williams River on Feb. 8.
