“Backshore Wave” – 7″ x 11″

The backshore area in Gloucester is a source of continuing facination and inspiration for me.

This scene is generic in that it could represent any number of places along the backshore.  The most striking and inspiring aspect of a rocky coastline are the dramatic contrasts in light, color, texture and movement. This painting was composed in an effort to balance these varied contrast in one scene.

Although there are striking color contrasts, the colors are kept muted which helps unify the composition and harmonize the chaotic contrasts.
