Class Schedule:
Week 1 – May 1st – Selecting And Placing Your Main Subject
Good composition starts with placement of your subject. Learn a simple method that works each time. In-class we’ll paint a country landscape with using this simple composition and placement idea.
Week 2 – May 8th – Leading The Eye
Learn how to create rythmn and movement in your paintings, while bringing the eye always back to the main subject. And get started on the all-important process of Value Composition.
Week 3 – May 15th – Value Composition
Learn about different kinds of shapes and their role in Value Composition. Get practice creating your own Value Compositions and converting Value To Color.
Week 4 – May 22nd – Active Composition
Pull together the ideas from class and make them your own!
Class Description
Learn basic Composition ideas that will strengthen your paintings right away! It is simpler than it seems!.
This class covers simple composition ideas for determining and placing subjects, focal points, and moving the eye through the painting with pointers. Also learn a simple approach to Value Composition.
MATERIALS
Use this Basic Watercolor Supplies and Materials list as a guide.
Much of the Composition process takes place BEFORE reaching for that precious watercolor paper! You’ll need regular drawing paper, pencils and small pieces of “scrap” watercolor paper as well.
