“Franny Reese Ruins” – original en plein air watercolor painting

“Franny Reese Ruins” – 7″ x 11″

This painting was done during the Hudson Valley Plein Air Festival in 2020.

The scene is along a pathway in Franny Reese State Park, Poughkeepsie, NY.  The ruins of an old cottage are nearby, but the compelling thing for me was the bright autumn light on one of the old gateposts near the cottage.

The combination of warm light and a pathway full of fallen leaves infused the whole scene with warmth in direct light and even in the shadows.
