Class Schedule:
Week 1 – June 5th – Making Water Look Right : Horizontal-ness and Reflections
There are three things to remember and get right when painting water. Explore those things this week with a calm ocean and a quiet, reflective beach.
Week 2 – June 12th – Waves and Whitewater
Learn how to paint waves in perspective and use techniques for foam and rough water. In class we paint a scene with moving waves and whitecaps.
Week 3 – June 19th – Waves and Rocks
Applied perspective helps support dynamic compositions. This class explores ways of applying perspective to support great compositions.
Week 4 – June 26th – The Active Ocean
Pull ideas, techniques and skills together in a challenging stormy ocean project.
Class Description
Learn to paint the the ocean and seascapes. Class covers important ideas, methods and techniques for your seascape paintings.
MATERIALS
Use this Basic Watercolor Supplies and Materials list as a guide.
We’ll be working on 140lb Cold Press Paper for each project. I recommend Arches 140lb Cold Press
Ocean water tends to be darker and lower intensity color than we think. Color mixes for this class will use different blues ; Cobalt, Ultramarine, Cerulean, and Indanthrene, along with earth colors; Raw and Burnt Sienna, and Raw and Burnt Umber. In addition to those, Quinacridone Deep Gold or Quinacridone Gold is a good addition.
