“Depot Road” – print size approximately 7″ x 10″
Warm light on a cold morning!
These white barns sit just off of Old Depot Road, in Arlington, Vermont. They are striking any time of year, but actually stand out less in winter, because they blend into a snow-covered landscape.
The temperature hovered around 17 as I painted this scene – pretty cold. But the light itself along with the color in the distant stand of evergreens provided a warm note to the painting – and a nice relief from the the ‘normal’ winter landscape of gray and brown.
Old Depot Road is one of the many dirt roads that wind in and around the rural areas of Vermont. All plein air artists have their favorite, familiar places to paint. This is one of mine. At this spot, Old Depot Road winds along the edge of Miller’s Pond. I’ve painted many views from here including, “Winter Pond“, “Marsh Morning “, and one titled “Old Depot Road“, among others.
