When the season fails to inspire, find the familiar places!
It’s been tough to find a ‘winter’ scene this winter. It is normal for fields with deep covers of snow to dominate the landscape. In those conditions, it is easy to find an inspiring scene, even on a cloudy and gray day.
This year, snow is scarce and so are the inspiring contrasts between field and forest.
At this point in the season, there even the left-over late autumn with burnt browns, yellows, oranges and reds have faded into the colors of tarnished metals.
Seeking out places of reliable visual interest is the remedy.
This scene was painted at one such location – at the intersection of Skiparee Road and Fowlers Way in Pownal, Vermont. It’s a view that always seems to have some interest. In particular the “little hill” that sits nestled down between two others and bordered by interestingly shaped field.
