Last Color In the Autumn Landscape
Cold drains color from the landscape.
Our first pre-winter cold snap has come and gone. Four days and nights of below freezing temps have faded what color remained. Whats left is a landscape quickly changing to gray and brown. Flat overcast heightens the effect.
This painting focuses on the low-intensity colors found in the late autumn landscape. The first glance at the November “scene” gives one a sense of only brown and gray. In reality, there is much more color than that, although it is all very low-intensity, especially when compared with the riot of bright peak foliage color.
