“Trees At Black Pond” – 15″ x 22″
An impressionistic and energetic interpretation of summer light on pine trees near Black Pond – part of the Visitors Interpretation Center (VIC) at Paul Smith’s College.
Most of my en plein air landscape paintings are attempts at creating a reasonably accurate depiction of the scene. Occasionally, something about the scene strikes a chord that leads me in a different direction.
The trunks of these pine trees alternated between brilliant light and deep shadow. In my mind’s eye, the deep shadows took on rich, almost vivid color – at least in comparison to the others around them. A less representational interpretation seemed to be in order!
