Watercolor Methods

Learn the methods and techniques and that make easy work of a difficult medium

This workshop is structured for small groups with the intention of each attendee getting maximum benefit. Bennington sessions are conducted in the instructors studio and intended for a maximum of 4 students. Cranford, New Jersesy sessions are conducted at The Artist Framer and intended for a maximum of 6 students.

Who is this class for? This workshop is for anyone who wants to paint watercolor with both looseness and contol. Suitable for all levels of skill – from beginners on.

What you’ll learn in this workshop:

Day 1 – “The water’s great – dive right in!”  – The most important element of watercolor is …  water! It’s the key to loose flowing washes, subtle minglings and for maintaining transparency. We’ll learn to use and manage it to best advantage.  Important techniques –  Wet-into-wet, dry-into-wet and edge creation – will be covered.

Day 2 – “Think ahead”  – Watercolor is not easily fixed, so planning for success is imperative. We’ll cover simple principles for powerful designs and explore ways to create dynamic shapes,  while learn to employing color and value for maximum effect.

Day 3 – “Composition is King”  – Creating any painting, of any subject, is actually an exercise in arranging design elements on our paper in a powerful, pleasing way. We’ll cover simple composition arrangements that result in strong paintings every time.

By the end of the three days, you’ll have all the tools needed to successfully paint in watercolor.
