A farm in late winter. It is not likely to see this view once leaves are on the trees, but this late winter the view from a bluff was compelling for the blue colors on the buildings and the alternating pattern of field and leftover snow furrows in the nearest field

Brighter blues make a striking contrast to the muted colors of winter and help brighten a gloomy landscape.  The painting is done a rough paper which provides a rugged broken look in a scene still in the grip of winter.
