Out on a bright, clear and cold morning when I set up to paint “du siège avant” again.
This farm is located on at the intersection of two roads that have four names – the names change at the intersection. The farm itself is located on a portion of the road named Cross Hill Road. I’ve painted it several times before from different points of view – one of those paintings can be seen here.
Bright sunlight can make it seem warmer than it really is. Such was the case on this morning. With the temperature at -4 degrees. The main attraction for me in this scene was the sunlight, shade and shadows on the large, simple shapes. While painting a winter landscape has it’s challenges – large areas of snow cover are a help to the artist who is struggling to simplify shapes and values.
The original painting is approx. 7 1/2″ x 11″ and is mounted and matted to 11″ x 14″, for easy, low-cost framing. Shipping is $6.95 to any address in the U. S.
This painting is in a private collection.
