February 26, 2014 – “First Touch of the Sun”, 7″ x 10″

First Touch of the Sun - watercolor plein air painting by Tony ConnerAnother early start to the day in the hopes of catching some color in the morning sky.  Off and on snow was forecast for the day – it turned out to be true. More on that in the coming days.

This view is on Harrington Road in North Bennington near the spot where I painted on “Farm on Hill From Harrington Road” on Jan. 21st, although farther to the northwest along the road. From there and looking to the southeast, I was in time to catch the first rays of light on the highest parts of the hill as well as the color in the sky.

As with most winter scenes, the color blue dominates – in the sky as well as on the ground. But there were some bright warm clouds in the sky and touches of orange on the highest, east facing trees.  Just enough to create another painting that features subtlety over powerful impact.

This painting currently on exhibit at The Skinny Pancake, 60 Lake St. Burlington, VT 05401
