Watercolor Landscape Painting

Three Day Workshop  – Fee $295

Learn to paint beautiful, eye-catching watercolor landscape paintings

APRIL 17 – 19, 2020 – CRANFORD, NEW JERSEY

OCTOBER 16 – 18, 2020 CRANFORD, NEW JERSEY

Who is this class for? This workshop is anyone who paints landscape scenes in watercolor.

What you’ll learn in this workshop:

This landscape painting class teaches you five important landscape painting skills:

  • Simple design and composition principles that create eye-catching paintings
  • Easy watercolor painting techniques that work well for showing landscape elements
  • Making your skies look right
  • Creating a focal points and moving the eye through the painting
  • Taking control of the painting by “departing from the literal” – MOST IMPORTANT

Day 1 – In the morning, we’ll work together on a simple landscape, learning how to make skies look right and using easy watercolor techniques to show various landscape elements.  In the afternoon, we’ll take a look at basic composition and value design principles.

Day 2 – Starting in the morning, you’ll work on a composition of your own, applying techniques and composition and design from day one. We’ll also cover various effective ways to create contrast in a landscape painting, and how to use them to create focal points in your painting.  We may have time to complete two paintings on day two.

Day 3 – Work on one or two more landscape paintings on day three, applying what you’ve learned on Day 1 and Day 2.

“Departing from the literal” will be an over-arching goal of the whole workshop – you’ll be gently reminded about that for the whole workshop.

These principles apply to seascape paintings as well, so you are welcome to work on seascape paintings in class as well.

It’ will be three busy but fun days.  My workshops are very flexible and interactive. Questions are encouraged. We’ll work on some exercises together and some we’ll work separately but with plenty of guidance.  We’ll end each day with a gentle review of the days work.
