February 25, 2014 – “”Taconic Mountains From Mt Anthony Road”, 7″ x 10″
Up and out early today to get a morning sky. As you might imagine, a plein air painter gets to know the area around his home pretty well, so if one knows what he wants to paint, it should be easy to find a spot to paint it.
This view actually looks north, up the narrow valley that shelters my town of Bennington, Vermont. The mountains in the painting are the Taconic range, which form the west side of the valley. The Green Mountains form the east side of the valley but are out of view in this painting.
I was hoping for more of a light show in the clouds, but it was the light, shadow and shade on the mountains that made the scene.
