February 20, 2014 – “Studio Objects with Turquoise Cloth “, 7″ x 10″
The silver box has become an object of attention in these last few paintings. It’s featured again in this one, facing a different direction and featuring other items that are blue in color.
After yesterday’s post, I was interested in working with fold lines in cloth. This cloth has been folded and stored in a cabinet for quite some time. The folds and creases were deep and embedded. The light color of the cloth makes for very subtle changes in color and value – a pleasure and challenge to re-create on paper.
Although blue colors dominate the composition, the touches of warm color – yellow-gold and red triangulate and balance the composition fairly nicely.
More “studio still lifes” to come.
This painting currently on exhibit at The Skinny Pancake, 60 Lake St. Burlington, VT 05401
