February 22, 2014 – “Studio Objects with Blue Mug”, 7″ x 10″ matted and mounted to a standard size of 11″ x 14″

Studio Objects With Blue Mug - watercolor still life painting by Tony ConnerThese simple set ups have gotten me into a groove and makes me want to keep going.  This set up is, again, similar to the others painted recently.  A few objects removed, a few added – including the dark violet blue mug in the featured in the foreground.

Working on seeing and capturing the character of reflective and transparent objects has really been the theme this week.  As with every other post since Tuesday, this painting features a silver box and a small silver cup – both very reflective.  The introduction of the dark blue mug, helps define all other objects and shapes, since its dark color gets captured in the reflections and helps to visually define the edges of the reflective shapes.

I’ve enjoyed spending this week focused on a particular theme. Paintings in the weeks to come will likely come in a series of works centered around a particular subject or theme.  More to come – stay tuned.

This painting is 7″ x 10″ and is mounted and matted to standard outside dimensions of 11″ x 14″ for easy, low cost framing.
