Watercolor Studio – Monday, May 25, 2020
This week: “Let’s show Picasso a thing or two!”
Get out that Picasso forgery you made a few weeks ago. We’ll use it to apply some of our recent color and composition work.
As you know, Picasso’s later work focused on symbols and composition within a flat plane of space.
For this class, we are going to use value and color to expand the apparent space in your chosen Picasso.
1- make two drawing layouts on watercolor paper.
2 – decide three things:
– the placement of individual objects in 3D space: what is close to you, what is a bit further away, what is furthest away
– direction of light
– pick a limited color palette
3 – paint one of the two layouts as if you are trying to show space (distance) and form. Remember that distance can be revealed with changes in value, temperature and color intensity (chroma). And that form is also revealed with the same: value, temperature and color intensity.
4 – bring the completed work and the other drawn layout to class
We’ll take a look at everyone’s Picasso with Space, deciding what value, temperature and chroma effects worked – and what didn’t.
Then we’ll do another!
