“Which Way?” – 7″ x 11″

Which Way - en plein air watercolor winter landscape painting by Tony ConnerA cold and overcast winter day left me looking for a compelling scene. Without the light effects from the sun, most of the snow-covered landscape looked flat.

At this country intersection, four roads converged. The recent snow cover created subtle pathways in each direction and deep forest cover of dark neutrals were nice foils for the light-white snow cover.

While painting the converging and diverging roads, I was always thinking of Robert Frost’s poem “The Road Not Taken” –

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
