“Nearly Spring”

Painting is 6” x 11” in a gold-toned 11” x 15” frame. Painting can be seen in my studio and is available for purchase online.

Winter melts away into mud and shimmering puddles as spring approaches. The mood of the landscape teeters between merry and melancholy. A muddy, rutted country road captures it as well as any scene.

This painting is based on another painting done en plein air on McCullough Road in North Bennington Vermont. The earlier painting depicted a time earlier in winter with a snow covered road and fading sunlight at the end of the day.

I am feeling the change of seasons approach and wanted to paint the scene as it might look on a thawing and melting late winter day.
