A winter scene that’s really about weak light and contrasting light shadows.
The painting was begun ‘en plein air’ - or more accurately ‘from the front seat’ as most of my winter en plein air paintings are. It has had studio revisions to deepen the fore and middle ground shadows.
The bits of weak sunlight filtering through to the ground create a rhythm and movement through the scene while also bringing visual emphasis to the fallen tree.
